I‘m sure we all know one. You know, those quaint, well-intentioned people who spend their lives moaning over the tragic lives of animals rather than bemoaning the tragic state of their own lives.

If you find yourself justifying your affection for leather to a hemp lover or occasionally empathising with the noble cow rather than seeing a leather bag and sirloin dinner, here’s some tonic for your tortured soul – a briefcase made of wood.

Okay, it’s still leather, but IT LOOKS like wood and isn’t the point of being eco-conscious REALLY just about ensuring that strangers on the street walk past you and think “Oh, that’s not a plastic bag…he must be a nice person…” Here are three mind bending options.

Just be sure not to leave them sitting by your fireplace on a cold winters day.

Hlaska Evergreen Portfolio:

From San Francisco (where everything is eco-friendly) leather goods purveyor, Hlaska, the Evergreen Portfolio is lovingly created to emulate the grain of cedars, ebony and pine. It comes in two sizes…depending on how many cows you’d like to kill.

Dunhill Black Wood:

It seems completely apropos that refined English outfitter would find a name for their line of looks like wood accessories that’s as descriptive as it is evocative. “Blahk-woood…” Everything from a brief cases to little leather doo-dads have now been fashioned to fool the eye.

Delvaux Newspaper bag:

Okay, I don’t think Delvaux meant to make a beechwood looking leather bag hen they set out to design this bag for Monocle shops, but it definitely looks like wood to me. At £1500, I haven’t quite talked myself into judging the optical illusion first hand, but judge for yourself.

  •     Pair color with functionality. Sure, all Italian leather cases look charming and picking one color can be a headache. If you're still undecided on what color to buy, choose a black one. If it's your first time to buy a leather suitcase, opt for the one in black color. Purchasing a black leather case is highly recommended for starters because you can pair it with any wardrobe and any pair of shoes. Black is a neutral color. Therefore, you can match any outfit with a black leather case. Considering that every professional always has a pair of black shoes, matching a black leather briefcase with black footwear will solve your color dilemma.
